2K does plenty of things right when it comes to the annual release of NBA 2k (and plenty of things not-so-right). Enhance your experience with the MarshDaddy's 2K Toolkit resources.

For more than a decade, NBA 2K has served for me as an outlet for storytelling.

 

First, it was with the mythical Rhadi Staley, a two-way combo forward who led the Cavaliers to dominance in the post-LeBron era of the 2010's. Since it's evolved, to a now five-year, 14-season story of the Golden State Warriors.

 

But with 2K, something was always missing. The stories were left untold. The realism of trades, signings and drafts felt lacking. So I did it myself. I did mock radio shows in my car. I jotted down records and championships in note books. I told the stories to myself because I didn't think anyone else would care. I was wrong.

 

Then I found Operation Sports (OS), a community that gave me an outlet to tell the stories with interested parties - and not friends who wondered why I kept telling them about how I lost in the Western Conference Finals because of an injury to a guard that didn't exist to them.

 

And through that community, I was pushed to do more. I created a reference doc to track all the minutia of my universe. I created article and website templates, inspired by the great users on OS. I created mental formulas and rules that helped govern the league and how teams and players acted.

 

I kept many of that to myself, because I still didn't think anyone cared. Turns out, I was wrong. Again. So I'm making it public.
